Thank you for your replies. I am thinking of asking the landlord for cost of parts plus business hours labour, as some of you suggest. A further question then: can the landlord refuse to pay that as well, or does he have a legal obligation pay for the repairs (at normal costs)?
Your landlord has no obligation to pay for any repairs that you authorised in my opinnion. You must allow your LL/LA to sort out non-emergancy (and even emergancy) issues in a reasonable period of time in the future.0 -
I think you'll have to swallow the cost OP. Offering to take action the following day is somewhat reasonable. I also think this wasn't an emergency, if you are lucky the landlord will reimburse you for part of the cost, however they didn't authorise the repair, and they will not have a receipt for their accounts.
Personally I would reimburse but would be having serious words with you as tenants.Aug 24 - Mortgage Balance £242,040.19
