My DS2 is making Christmas cake in school next week, now to make sure everyone has all the right ingredients we haven't been given an ingredient list just a note asking for £7 and the teacher is buying it all in.
Now this might be ok for those who either don't have the time or can't be bothered but i know that said ingredients don't cost that amount if sourced wisely as I did it myself 3 years ago for DS1.
I would make a stand and refuse but don't want DS2 singled out, he has along with a couple of others stated their case for an ingredient list.
The method of making a Christmas cake will be the same regardless of the ingredients I would imagine, so I'd just find a recipe and provide him with the ingredients. I think £7 sounds a bit steep.0 -

Surely one of the skills that they should be learning is to source the ingredients, and at a reasonable price too. Therefore, it should be one of the objectives of the exercise and the teacher is taking that away.February wins: Theatre tickets0 -
It can be to save on the washing up. A guy at Uni used to do this - he would take the lid off first and then warm his soup tin up on the hob. One girl got really annoyed and told him to use a pan, so he promptly put the pan on the stove and put the tin in the pan :rotfl: His argument was he didn't want to do any washing up!
Oh good grief. Height of laziness right there!February wins: Theatre tickets0 -
I Both my parents are dismissive of my old style skills as they view it as poverty - they had to do it when they were younger because they were poor. I see it as freedom.
This resonates with me; my mum is mortified by some of the things I do as she had no choice when she was younger and thinks I'm telling the world I'm poor!0 -
A tin of condensed milk will also explode if you let the pan boil dry! So my DH informs me :rotfl:
It's not a good idea to put milk in the kettle either, as I discovered as a youngster! I wanted hot milk for a hot chocolate, and Mum told me to boil the milk myself. So, logically (or so I thought), I poured milk into the kettle and turned it on! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Mum was sooo mad until I reminded her that no one had told me how to do it, shown me, or explained what happens when you heat milk and that it's different to water!
Oh, and my SIL blew a hole in the roof of the microwave after putting foil in there!!February wins: Theatre tickets0 -
I'm not sure I'm posting this in the right place - please sort me out if not!
Despite thinking of myself as quite handy at sewing, knitting, mending etc I seem to have come unstuck recently with zips that ahve stayed intact but the tab that you pull has come off. Most recently this was on a cheap fleece jacket where I can't really replace the zip because of how it's made. It's also happened inthe internal compartment of a favourite handbag - even trickier!
I am hoping someone can come up with an ingenious idea of what to replace the tab with; the nearest I can get to it is a paper clip & I'm sure there must be a better answer! All ideas appreciated!0 -
I use a sturdy safety pin or thread a keyring onto the zip.Try to be a rainbow in someone's cloud.0

have you tried a safety pin. You could always try a mobile phone charm that would probaly look more attractive!
