Quartz (infared) Heaters - Running Costs?

I work from home and spend most of the day in the computer room.
It's probably the coldest room in the house, but a perfect space for my needs.
Anyway, it seems silly to have all the central heating in the house on when I'm cold when I'm just using one room and I can't be bothered to turn off the un-needed radiators during the day, just to have to turn them all back on every night when most the house is being used.
So, I went out and bought a Quartz infared 800w heater, which I place a couple of feet away from me and works great, even using just one bar (400w).
But is this really more energy efficent than having all (or most) of the gas radiators on?
