Student finance help for a friend

A friend of mine is currently applying for Uni to do a nursing degree.
Her problem is that she is a single Mum with 2 kids and rents a council house and she hasn't got a clue on what benefits she's entitled to.
She's doesn't know what grants, bursaries etc. she would be able to apply for or what other benefits she would get.
She looked on the Directgov website but seemed more confused after reading it.
Any help would be gratefully received

When is she planning on going?

Theres a calculator here for last years (well this years) students to give a rough idea for next year. If she is planning on going in 2012 things would be a lot different though.0 -
From Student Finance England, she would only be eligible for a maintenance loan. All other support comes from the NHS Bursary Scheme0
