Hi
Oh WISE ones I need your advice on this...I know its a long message but any help would be really appreciated.
Last year I insured my car with Hastings, the policy was taken in October 2009 and arranged to pay the premium by monthly direct debits.
Hastings set the direct debit up but only collected 1 maybe 2 premiums but when i checked my bank account in Jan / Feb 2010 I realised they failed to collect payments. So, I rang them and informed them and I paid the missed payments by card over the phone and they said they would arrange to set up to DD again. I received a letter in the post from them to confirm the new DD had been set up and all my account details were correct.
A couple of months later, I was in the same situation. DD set up, payments not collected, no reminders of missed payments received. So, again in April phoned them and went through the same thing of paying them the missed DD amount.
Following this, no other payments were collected and no reminders of missed payment received. I renewed my policy this year with them also, and they've set up a new DD on my account and they are collecting payments every month. But, the balance on the old policy was not mentioned.
Then last week, I deleted the old DD on my bank account and today i received a letter from Hastings telling the DD had been cancelled and that I should either return the certificate or pay the balance owing to them about £230!!
Considering I phoned and told them on 2 separate occasions and that no reminders for the non payments were sent out can they really demand the full balance to be settled?
Help please, I can't afford to settle this amount in one go
Thanks

you owe so you have to pay, as it's their mistake they should accept staged payments.0
