Eon Saveonline3 v Southern electric Price fixed 5 March 2012

Options
Can someone help me with this problem.

I have currently switched from Southern Electric to E-On Saveonline3 after advice from this and associated websites.

During the switch over Southern Electric contacted me and offered Price Fixed 5 - March 2012.

They told me this was cheaper than the E-On Saveonline 3. Naturally I said yes and got them to do what they needed. Reading the small print it appears that I may have to pay a cancellation fee to E-On of £30.

Reading the tariffs between the two is very confusing, can anyone tell me which is the best deal

E-on's costings are as follows

Gas First 2680 KwH each year 5.415p (inc Vat)
Next KwH 2.621p (inc VAT)

Electric First 900 KwH each year 17.62p (inc VAT)
Next KwH 9.15p (inc VAT)

Southern Electric

Gas First 625 KwH per quarter 8.12p
Next KwH 2.81p

Electric First 150 per quarter 20.57p
Next KwH 11.79p

From my calculations I make E-On cheaper, but the price fixed until 2012 is guaranteed with Southern Electric, where as E-on state their standard prices may change, but will remain 6% cheaper until Nov 2011.

Confused,

Can anyone help?

  • So much dearer on Price Fix 5, SaveOnline will be at least £100-£150 a year cheaper, and bear in mind it is likely that there will be decrease again in 9-12 months, so a 2 year fix is maybe not the best product, particularly Price Fiox 5 is fixing you at new SSE gas rates, if you've got to fix with sse Price Fix 3 is only a 12month fix and much much cheaper than Price Fix 5, but Save Online 3 cheaper than that still, to get idea of cost need annual consumption to apply rates to get cost
  • E.ON take away your discount if you leave them during the contract so your final bill is quite high. Also rember E.ON will no doubt increase prices so your save online tariff will increase in price at some point.

On the whole just now E.on SO tarriff will be cheaper but its a gamble prices may rise. higher later on next year we don't know.

  • But if you do comparison, remember EDF are not putting their prices up, Eon have released a weak statement to the effect of we have no plans to raise prices at this time and always look to offer competitive pricing - not a direct quote, but statement was released last friday in response to BG increase. To be fair % spend difference between Fixed price will be far in excess of 10% more on that tariff with SSE so on saveol3 even if max increase by Eon of 10% still cheaper than sse Fiuxed Price 5
  • I have opted for EDF v7 with £180 cashback (£100 Bonus + £80 Quidco) it may be worth considreing that as airmike said EDF have promised no rises until atleast march which made me rather happy.

He is saying if you want to fix the price for two winters, SE is cheaper, which is true. He can't beat E.On on variable rate, so he tries to sell you their fixed rate instead.

How can the numbers you gave ever make SE cheaper?
