Hi
Yet again technical errors when trying to sort out lots of chaos! Who'd believe it! Can I please ask for help ... running XP SP3 and HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GE20NU11 USB lg dvdram drive has suddenly gone weird ... 'semaphore timeout' errors and also had a 'failed to unlock drive from exclusive access error' ... unplugged everything, plugged in, managed to burn a disk, then the next disk same errors (using imgburn) ... 4 disks coasters now, and only had drive for few months, from amazon seller. Just before error had installed program that had needed to select in it's setting the drive I'd be using ... and I'd uninstalled and reinstalled updated version of klite mega codec pack ... could klite cause this odd error, or is it just a weird coincidence?
Would much appreciate help. Best regards, Cat

post the imgburn log,
Try a different burning program and dvd type (if you have one), and run chkdsk on the c: drive to check for errors.!!

Hi again debitcardmayhem ... your solution great ... did 3 backup burns, which was not happening at all before ... but it's gone wrong again ... maybe points to a fault with the drive itself as well? (the report in fixit had said about corrupt drivers etc)

Hi
Just bumping this up ...
And asking more too :-)
Fiddled on with upper lower filters, and ended up not realising I'd removed the external HDD filters, so that reinstalled, got lots of extra dell drives somehow, and computer running slowly, bit of a mess with messing on. Needing to know how to set bios to boot from the drive I was asking about, the external, as at the moment it reads disks, but the internal DVDRAM drive (the old one I've stopped using) I'm thinking is too old to keep set as the DVD drive ... so I'm wanting to set the drive I originally posted about, the newer DVDRAM usb external, as the boot for now, to do a format as quick as pos, then at least that's done while the drive reads disks. Can't see what or how to change in the bios to get system to boot from external usb DVDRAM drive ... only says USB not installed. Is Dell Dimension 1100 desktop.
Many thanks, Cat0 -
Hi ,not been hiding but expensive drinking sessions for family reasons. ok If its a dell try F12 as soon as you get the Dell splash screen to select what you want to boot from (I am probably wrong of course and can't check at the moment OH is working on my Dell and I want to live til tomorrow
, I also think that the option to get into BIOS for Dells is F2 so look there if necessary if F12 doesn't work, and then look for Boot at the top). If it is a desktop, you could of course open the case and unplug the DVD cable(and / or check it's OK) . If you do that and the PC still boots try again and uninstall from device manager (Control Panel system/Device manager the DVD/Cdroms ) and then try Add Hardware from control panel and allow XP to look for drivers on the internet(windows update) Remove any CDs/DVDs before rebooting .
