Westminster Abbey restaurants

Options
I'm planning a weekend staying near Westminster Abbey. I won't have much time, but need two decent suppers and a lunch in the area between Westminster Abbey and Cathedral.

I've googled the area for restaurants and they are either only open during the week, or hideously expensive. OH doesn't like pasta and pizza, so the usual Italian chains are out.

Any recommendations for good cafes, pubs, restaurants, gratefully recieved.

    Advice please?
  • If your willing to walk across the Thames you will be on southbamk and there are a number of restaurants there so you would have some variety to choose from - this is about a 15 - 20 minute walk depending on where you are staying - but you are close to the eye and it's well worth a visit.

Otherwise there are some restaurants in strutton ground and a few pubs in the area as well but as it's primarily an office zone the selection does become limited after hours.

Agree about walking over the bridge to the south bank there you will find a myriad of places, like giraffe wagamamas, eat, pingpong I coud go on and on

alternatively strutton ground is a good bet, yes, a brilliant chippy on there, along with a cheap ( ok its pizza) place called ecco plus greasy spoons.

in the M&S complex on victoria street there is nandos, starbucks type places and a chain pub ( poss pitcher and piano) plus M&S of course

you can walk up whitehall where there are more pubs including a wetherspoons and then you are at trafalgar square where there is loads of bits and pieces as well.
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind

Most if not all of Strutton Ground will be closed at the weekend, though the Old Monk Exhcange (decent enough pub) appears to be open. Sanctuary House Hotel a good bet too. You'll have to go a little beyond that small strip between Westminster Abbey and Cathedral but try for the Regency cafe, and/or check out Wilton Road, SW1V 1DE for Brazillian, turkish, dim sum, mexican and others.

Cardinal Place in Victoria as well as the restuarants/pubs around Victoria/Victoria St James Park Station.

    The Sanctuary Pub

    The Speaker

The Barley Mow are all a short distance away and fairly decent food at alright prices.
