Help! Glassware and cutlery hire really expensive.

Hello all
We're getting married in a marquee next March and have just had a quote for hiring linen, glassware and cutlery for 60 guests at nearly £900.
That's a lot more than we budgeted for! Does anyone have any ideas for how to get it cheaper? It's complicated in that we're being catered for by the hotel whose grounds the marquee is in (and they don't want to use their own cutlery etc - I guess because the restaurant isn't that big so they don't have enough).
Please help if you have any ideas.

Tesco and Sainsbury (and I think Waitrose) all do glass hire.
Crockery and cutlery it is probably cheaper to buy these from Ikea or similar and then sell again afterwards. Why does nobody say Thank You anymore??:mad:Debt Free as of September 2011 :jSealed Pot 2009 number 334 - £100 Saved! yey!!Sealed Pot 2010 number 334 - £116.51 Saved! Yey!! YIPPEE!!0 -
I can't find anything on the Tesco website - be a possibility though. The Ikea website - looks like they don't do enough different sized knives/forks etc for three course unfortunately. Might try my local budget homeware stores - Wilkos?0

I'd definitely go into Ikea to look at plates and glass ware. I dont think they show all that they stock on their website? What matters most is how well you walk through the fire0

I think you will need to visit Tesco/Sainsbury etc as each shop has different stocks, but not all stores do it.
Whereabouts is the wedding?Why does nobody say Thank You anymore??:mad:Debt Free as of September 2011 :jSealed Pot 2009 number 334 - £100 Saved! yey!!Sealed Pot 2010 number 334 - £116.51 Saved! Yey!! YIPPEE!!0 -
We're down in Cornwall - end of the world!0

Would it be cheaper to buy glasses from the economy range of somewhere like asda / tesco? I know I've seen some really cheap, plus it wouldn't be the end of the world if any got broken, and you could maybe sell them on afterwards?much work to be done - new sig coming soon...0

Also - another idea is to speak to the venue you are using and see if they can recommend anyone - they will probably hire their own table linen, so adding extra to that order wouldn't be an issue.
Cornwall - maybe a visit to trago for cheap cutlery then? - and then resell it later. Why does nobody say Thank You anymore??:mad:Debt Free as of September 2011 :jSealed Pot 2009 number 334 - £100 Saved! yey!!Sealed Pot 2010 number 334 - £116.51 Saved! Yey!! YIPPEE!!0 -
Thanks Dizzie and Monkey. I will investigate Trago and Asda for cheap glasses and cutlery.
Unfortunately the quote is from the hotel's supplier...0 -

Yep - they are about the same price.
It's just adds up I guess! We need plates and cutlery for 3 course and cake, glasses for Pimms, wine, champagne and water, linen for the tables, water jugs and teacup&saucers, and the venue wants a couple of hot cupboards with bains maries.0
