Rag rolling hair for curls!

Has anybody tried this?

My DD (4!) would love to have some curls and I am not doing it with my heated curlers or straighteners if i can help it - so I thought it might be fun to try rags!!!

No idea how but wondered if any of you have tried it

I remember my mum doing this for when I was at school (for a Victorian day I think) because I have curly hair anyway It was amazing how curly it went and how well it held.

I slept in them over night and had perfect ringlets all the next day!

I used to do it when I was a teenager - I'd try anything for curly hair! I remember rolling it up in strips of j-cloth when it was wet, leaving it overnight, then giving it a hot blast with the hair dryer in the morning and letting it cool down before taking the rags out. My hair is thin and fine so the curls never lasted long, but they were pretty for a while! Might last longer if you put some mousse in before rolling them up maybe?

I remember doing this at school too. You just take strips of sheeting or other cotton six inches by one inch, divide your hair into sections, and roll the hair round the strip as if it were a roller, all the way up to the scalp. Then you tie the two ends of the rag together tightly (not TOO tight, or your little girl will be yelling) and go to bed. It's SLIGHTLY uncomfortable to sleep in, but nothing like foam rollers, for example.

In the morning, undo your knots and the hair should come down easily - leaving you with lovely ringlets...

wow this brings back memories, it's one of the only ways to keep curls in my hair,

mum would use whatever "rags" she had whilst my hair was damp and roll it, tie it and leave it as long as possible, normally at least over night.

As a little girl I had poker straight hair which I hated and always wanted to be curly.. In the end I begged and pleaded with my hairdresser Mom to let me have a perm - I think I was just 10 when I finally persuaded her

I was delighted with my new hair but was scared to move my head in case they fell out as they always had done when mom put it in curlers!

My DD had the most beautiful curls until she was about 1 year old!!! I was disappointed when they dropped out, and now both DDs have straight hair, and mine went curly about a year ago for no apparent reason!!!!!

Errata

Cut one inch strips of rag twice as long as the length of the hair. Dampen hair, fold rag in half and place fold next to roots of a clump of hair, twist clump and one half of the strip round the other half of the strip until it's all twisted, tie knot in ends of rags, go to bed, wake up with headache and earache in the morning.
I so wish I didn't know the technique for this

LOL!!! My DD is only 4 but she really wants to try it

I just put one in, and she is delighted already... If she dare to take them all out when I have finished I will be :mad:

if she doesn't take to it you could just plait it and let her sleep in plaits and take those out the next morning. Makes hair curly in a different way but it might suit?
