Rag rolling hair for curls!

Wow, brings back memories, used to do this loads when I was a teenager. Used to do it after I'd washed my hair and towel dried it as I've got poker straight hair and and less wet than this used to be a waste of time. You just have to make sure that you do enough rolls and don't try to put tomuch hair in each one or the ends that end up in the middle of the roll will still be damp in the morning. Always found it perfectly allright to sleep in.
If I had the time I'd still do it occasionally now - still hanker after curls but with 1 LO and one on the way never get the chance. My DD has her daddy's curls so won't be needing me to do this - she'll probably want it straight like mine!0 -
But will she want to sleep on her face, because that's about all you can manage ..."On behalf of teachers, I'd like to dedicate this award to Michael Gove and I mean dedicate in the Anglo Saxon sense which means insert roughly into the anus of." My hero, Mr Steer.0

I know the foam things you mean! but not as comfy as rags because they have a wire inside them!
I had waist length dead straight hair as a child and my mum wanted me to have shirley temple ringlets and I can remember standing there for hours (well it FELT like hours) while she did about two dozen rag curls, damping my hair and curling it up and tieing the rags. Next morning............I had lost half the rags on one side! and the other side looked as if I had stuck my finger in an electric socket! mum cried, as she had to wash my hair again and leave it straight! I was quite relieved as I remember.........hated my hair being messed with...............still do!!!:)
My mum and sister used to play with my hair all the time when i was younger as it was straight. I'm the only one with straight hair in my family but i have wanted curls for so long...
I tried everything except for heated rollers but even the hairdressers since then have said they wouldn't attempt to curl my hair as they know with my thick, heavy straight hair it would be a waste of time....
Still have a hankering for curls though...:o0 -
Hi folks
It went well (ish) for a first attempt. 2 or 3 came out in the night so it was a bit of a shambles in that departmentBut DD didn't mind that!!! I am sure school thought we just hadn't bothered to brush her hair this morning
She has really thick dark hair so I think next time I will do it damp as the curls had all dropped out by the time I picked her up.Putting these winter preps here so I don't forget!

If anyone is having trouble with young daughters and combing out tangles every morning, try plaits for bed. It really is very sucessful.
I have one of These for my DDs - they are amazing for getting tangles out, even in DD2s hair. She has cried with every other brush I have tried. I know a few people who have bought them and everyone says the same. They have a couple of gimmicky ones but the original is the one we have and I wouldn't part with it, ever
You can get them on ebay - cost £10 inc P&PPutting these winter preps here so I don't forget!

Ooh - ringlets! My slightly wavey hair will barely hold a curl (but will stay straight once straightened). My gran had the best results getting my hair to curl.
(If I remember correctly) It was using old legs of tights, cut into sections about the length of the hair (un-stretched). Leaving about an inch or so spare at the top, hold the end of the tights to the roots of a damp section of hair and wrap the hair round the tights, keeping the tights stretched (you may need a hand to do this, usually I could hold the top of the tights whilst gran wound the hair). When you have wound the section of hair, wind the remainder of the length of tights back up the wound hair in the opposaite direction until you reach the top (this stops them un-ravelling). When you get back to the top you tie the ends off together. This was never uncomfortable to sleep with as you never had a mass of hair wound up near your scalp (you do look a bit like Medusa though!!). In the morning, perfectly formed ringlets, just need softening, using your fingers as a comb.start = Wed 19th Nov 2008 £21,225

I love a good plan - it may not work.... but I love a good plan!0
