Hi All,
I'm wanting to lay slate slabs (600mmx600mm) in our new kitchen, at present we have a bare concrete floor.
We laid the drive in these slabs last year so they are usually used for outside. The place where I am getting them from has said that it's fine to lay them inside. B&Q sell kitchen floor tiles and they look identical but they are more expensive so I'm getting them from a local merchant. He has said that floor tile adhesive would be fine, and he recomended 20mm thickness.
Questions ~
1) Is there a difference between internal and external slate tiles? My neighbour said "slate is slate, it's all the same".
2) Would floor tile adhesive be correct and if so how much thickness is necessary?
It is the floor I want but I need to make sure I'm not setting my husband up for a load of hassel in laying them and that I don't waste my money on the wrong thing! Perhaps I should go for another floor? Any advice, opinions etc very welcome.
Many thanks

Hi Frogga
Hi would recommend Sontex RS2 floor
This is a fast-setting, polymer modified cement adhesive for fixing ceramic tiles, fully vitrified, porcelain, mosaics and natural stone in interior and exterior.
Mix with water and spread 3mm on concrete and 3mm application on back of tile. If the slate is grey I would grout with same adhesive after 2 hours
search for sontex RS2 and purchase in any DIY store
3.5 kg of adhesive covers approx. 1m² at 3mm thickness
Good luck and invest in pair of knee pads or fashion your own from foam and gaffa tape.Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop once in a while and look around, you might miss it. Ferris Bueller was on to something there.0 -
not all slate is the same.
riven slate rough and honed smooth.
lay the thicker tiles first and build up the thinner tiles.
use chipped tiles for the edges of the room.0
