Data Loss!

I have a Buffalo Drivestation external HD which I keep all my photos, data etc on, when I start Windows it says that the disc needs to be formatted, and when I check in Disk Management it says that the drive is empty!
Any ideas?

Hmm, I know people will suggest data recovery companies, but try going to your nearest Catholic church and offering a prayer & contribution to St Anthony, patron saint of lost things.
