Switching to EDF but still under contract
Options
Hi all
Im currently with Scottish power discounted energy Dec 2010 tariff. I want to switch to the EDF online saver 7. I phoned up SP and asked when my contract runs to and was told Nov 30th. Exactly the date the EDF £100 cashback offer finishes. I was also told by SP that if i switch before Nov 30th i will be charged a £50 cancellation fee.
I know it takes time to actually switch provider but will i be charged the cancellation fee if i sign up now? Or should i wait till say 29th Nov? Or does it matter? Will i be charged either way if i initiate switching before the 30th Nov?
thanks

Why not give EDF a ring, its a bit of a grey area.
I suppose ringing up on the last evening of their offer (3oth) , they wont be getting in touch with your provider till after that date so you should be okay.
Ring EDF, I have been with them for quite a number of years now and their customer service is excellent.
I am on On line Saver 7 or something like that.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
EDF give a 14 day cooling off period before they do anything at all so you've at least got 14 days before the change over is even started.0

No, because you won't 'join' EDF until late December now. The actual switch won't take place until then. You could just wait until 30/11, but then you take the chance that EDF will pull the OSV7 offer. It's getting a lot of publicity (big piece in Guardian Money today), so quite possible that once they hit their target they will close it.
Make sure you switch via Quidco or topcashback to add another £80 to your bonus! No free lunch, and no free laptop0
