How do you use a pasta machine?

  • We have two pasta machines in our house. We bought our first one in Italy as we just adore fresh pasta. This proved such a big success that we upgraded to an Imperia when we saw one in a local charity shop. Not sure it's significantly better than our Italian one, but the results from both are excellent.

Making pasta is my husbands domain - think it must be similar to men and their BBQ's. He says it's a doddle to clean as you never put water anywhere near it, he just brushes it off.

Are the results worth it? A resounding YES from our household - but then we do like our food - if it's going in my mouth then I want it to be the best I can possibly get.

We've only ever used pasta flour - either brought home from Italy, or picked up from Waitrose or Sainsbury's.

we saw a pasta machine in there for £25 - stainless steel, gleaming and fabulous to look at.

It looked like it might be a bit of a sod to clean...are they?

I got mine from Freecycle - I use it but not often enough to have justified buying one ;)

Don;t wash it - just allow any dough to dry and it will brush off :D

My hens are laying more eggs than I can use atm, so I think I'll get mine out and make lasagne :T

I've found an existing thread so I'll merge this to give you more ideas.

  • My children don't break up until thursday so I'm using the next few days to plan lots of activities & days out but you've reminded me I have a pasta maker (that I've never used) I must dust it off this year & get the children helping out - they'd love it !!!

    I hope you enjoy :D

Is it only lasagne & tagliatelle you can make with a pasta machine?

Skint_Catt - i have a raviolli cutter too so can make raviolli aswell (not that i've tried yet - maybe soemthing to attempt this weekend!)

  • I'd assume you could attempt ravioli or tortellini - I think you can do spaghetti/linguine too?
  • Mine as it is does lasagne, taglietelle, spaghetti, linguini and a couple of others I can't recall. It is capable of ravioli anf tortellini but you need a special adapter which comes separately.

Hmmm yummy  I adore fresh pasta but it's off the Slimming World menu due to the use of oil (well it's not a free food like dried is anyway). Might have to wait until I get to target (a long long way away) before treating myself to a machine!
