Darich is correct, in the industry we often explain it to a customer as being a "No claims Bonus" not a "No Blames Bonus"

I think the original question has been lost a bit in this thread the whole issue is as its called a no claims bonus it is given if you don't make a claim. So its self explanatory I would have thought. If its a bonus for not claiming then it will be reduced if you claim.
The original poster was as I understood that by losing his NCB he was paying his/her own claim. But seeing as his premium was reduced by his NCB he/she actually saved money initially. If he/she had full NCB of 50% for 5 years on a £1k policy so paying £500 he/she would have saved £2.5k.
If after having a claim they reduce the amount of no claims discount you can hardly complain.

But no claims bonus does not work like that, you only lose two years of your no claims bonus (Plus any you were accruing in the current year), so your figures and the op's figures are well out.
  • why not put your premium up after an accident if it was our fault, they have to pay for recovery of your vehicle, they have to pay someones wages and petrol to go assess your car, they have to pay storage, they have to pay for letters to the other party, they have to pay out compensation, and they have to pay out for a vehicle, so why not pass some of that cost onto us. insurance companies would go bust if they didnt.

    hilarious lol

think about it for just a second...

Indeed as I pointed out earlier in the thread they would lose 2 years NCB, but if he had 5 years of full NCB he would have saved a full 5 years. Also the time from the first year to the earned full NCB. So they have benefited probably for 8 to 9 years from the discount, then they can not really say its unfair when they take some off you if you claim.

Sorry if I didnt make myself clear in the last post;)
