How much is fair for this?

Due to wife being knocked down by car and badly injured two years ago we had the bath taken out and a shower cubicle installed with seat and various wall brackets etc.

Problem is the installer only put a 42mm trap under the waste so now when we empty wash basin it sucks water out of shower trap and lets the drain smell in which we can only stop by pouring jug of water in shower tray each time we empty basin.

We can't take the cubicle out and start over (too expensive) so the only way I can think of is to take the wash basin drain pipe out of the soil stack outside and let basin have its own drain pipe to the grate outside.

1. blank for plugging hole left in soil pipe, 10 feet 42mm pipe and one bend or elbow fitting to guide water into grate.

How much do you think this would cost?

  • About £10-£15 in parts.

But if you want to know a labour price you should be putting pictures up.

Edit: scrub previous comment suggesting anti-syphon trap on basin. I think you need an air admittance valve in the waste pipework or maybe a HepVo trap for shower or between shower and basin?

Anti-syphon trap on the basin will do nothing to help the shower.

Its the air pressure change as the water goes past the shower branch that is emptying the shower trap.

Sorry yes i realised i'd given a wrong solution (think i was thinking kitchen sinks with washing machines hooked up where anti-syphon traps stop the WM sucking the water out the sink trap).
    Seperate waste pipes certainly preferable.

I had to think for a second also.
