  • If the dentist had put a white filling in (which wouldnt last as long). You'd be filing (yes filing not filling!) complaint because it fell out after a short time.

  • Did you not think to ask before the dentist started work OP?

    Unfortunately it seems that as you have wrongly assumed a white filling would automaticly be used and not asked for clarification, you have come unstuck.

    I always want to know exactly what will be going on in my mouth during a visit to the dentist.

    But everyone SHOULD have the ability to make their own decision once in possession of all the information.
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.
