 Hi I was wondering would would anyone be able to help me. I recently travelled to the USA and completed an application on the ESTA website, I was charged £24.95 per application. On completion I was not provided with a reference number and therefore was not cleared with ESTA to travel and had to complete a subsequent application with a fee of $14 per applicant. Was I the victim of an internet scam and is there any way I can retrieve my payments. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

yes, you were the victim of a scam. $14 is what you should have paid.
You could try reclaiming the £25 from whoever you paid it to, but I wouldn't be too hopeful of getting it back if I was you.0 -
did you pay by credit card0

Where did you get the website from?
If you do a Google search for ESTA and go to the website at the top of the list of results, you are taken to a page that is designed to look just like a US Gov official site.
This one charges $49.99 for processing your ESTA application.
The website is shown as "USA Travel Authorisation"0
