Just moved into new house...

Options
Hi there,

We moved into a new house last month and our gas and electricity suppliers are EON. We haven't changed them from what the old owners had.

However, with all the price increases announced recently, we're a bit confused as to whether or not we should switch. The problem is that we don't have any real bills for a full quarter to compare against.

Should we just stick with EON until our first quarter bill pops along, or is that gamble too much?

Thanks for your help!

I am in the same position and have made a rough estimate based on how I feel about the house. This house is cold so I have guessed that I'll be spending more on heating so have increased the usage figures that I got from my last property. I put several guesses into a comparison site and made a decision based on that. I wouldn't consider staying on a standard tariff for any length of time, that's for sure.

    Hi NitWitson

I agree with t0rt0ise. Make sure you're on the most favourable tariff for your circumstances.

It takes between 4 to 6 weeks to change supplier. Therefore, it may well save you a bit if you go on a better tariff whilst a switch goes through.

However, be careful not to opt for a tariff with tie-ins or cancellation fees. Leave yourself free to switch to another provider once you have an idea of your expected future usage.

Details of our tariffs are on the website.

I'd contact us and tell us about your property/appliances. We'll give you a rough approximation of what sort of annual usage you might expect.

Pop these figures on to the comparison sites. This will give you a list of all the tariffs available to you, both with us and the other suppliers.

Hope this is useful NitWitson. Give me a shout if you need any more info as will be happy to help. Drop an email to the address in my Profile if you prefer.
