Advice on virus removal

Hi all
This: vshare.toolbarhome. Has infected my system and hijacked my home page. I know exactly when the infection took place. Would a system restore resolve the problem?

I have MBAM. SuperAntispyware. Skybot S&D. Avira. None of them picked it up. Would running them in safe mode make any difference?

Thanks in advance.

MBAM doesn't detect viruses, at least not the free edition. It' an 'on-demand scanner' only, so have you done a full scan with it following an update?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Download HIJACK THIS (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION')
    http://www.filehippo.com/download_hijackthis/
Click MAIN MENU then DO A SYSTEM SCAN AND SAVE A LOGFILE(Takes seconds) then post the log so we can see whats running
(do NOT do anything else with Hijack but scan and post the FULL log)
If you get a message that you cant write to the hosts file then Press the SHIFT key, and whilst holding it RIGHT CLICK and select RUN AS (admin)

I assume it is firefox you are using.

    try this

    Here is the steps:
    1) Type about:config in firefox address bar
    2) Enter keyword.url into the search/filter box. You will see the dreaded vshare.toolbarhome.com
    3) Double click keyword.url under preference name and enter “http://www.google.com/#sclient=psy&hl=en&q=” in the box that appears
    4) Click OK
    And your done!

Sadly this didn't work. Went through your instuctions, however 'Google' was already listed and not the 'dreaded vshare'

Downloading Hijack this. Will post the log in a jiffy.

    That entry looks suspicious.

Which browser are you using that shows the problem ?

Obvious question, have you looked in add/remove programs just in case.

If firefox, have a look in tools...addons

A system restore "might" remove it, if you try it ensure you use a restore date prior to problem.

You might do a search for a file called hosts, and have a look inside that.

If it is in IE then have a look at tools ... manage addons and see if it is listed there.

"X" - Definitely not required - typically viruses, spyware, adware and "resource hogs"17112010180506.png
