Parcel Delivery Scam

I received this message in an email and thought it might be useful for other members to read, especially as we are all going to have missed deliveries with all our wins! ;)

"Can you circulate this around especially as Xmas is fast approaching - it has been confirmed by Royal Mail. The Trading Standards Office are making people aware of the following scam:

A card is posted through your door from a company called PDS (Parcel Delivery Service) suggesting that they were unable to deliver a parcel and that you need to contact them on 0906 6611911 begin_of_the_skype_highlighting 0906 6611911 end_of_the_skype_highlighting (a Premium rate number).

DO NOT call this number, as this is a mail scam originating from Belize.

If you call the number and you start to hear a recorded message you will already have been billed £315 for the phone call.

If you do receive a card with these details, then please contact Royal Mail Fraud on 020 7239 6655 begin_of_the_skype_highlighting 020 7239 6655 end_of_the_skype_highlighting."

Not sure if this is the best place to post this type of information, please relocate if necessary.

  • Oh dear, are you aware of email hoaxes that are set to pass viruses or are just sent to generate lots of mail?

    Please see http://www.hoax-slayer.com/pds-phone-scam.html

I know you mean well, but before passing on "warning" emails that have had their details "confirmed" could you check them out first.

Having said that thanks for the reminder about 0900 phone numbers :)

20 min maximum call length on premium numbers so at £1.50 a min thats £30 tops.

If you want to check a premium number use this checker

    http://www.phonepayplus.org.uk/output/for-the-public.aspx

The result for the above number is
This number was used on a scam that PhonepayPlus adjudicated on in 2005. This number is no longer running and has not been running since December 2005. If you receive a copy of this email warning you about the alleged scam, please do not forward it to others. Instead please forward this information from PhonepayPlus.

But it's going to be the first time the OP has seen it / posted it. So treat it like the first year, in terms of politeness, like mnkyhngr did.

its the first time for everyone that posts it(I'll pay £10 to a charity of your choice if this is the last time its posted on MSE this year)
so its the same for everyone that perpetuates this dross
a very simple search of the forum or google could have verified its credibility
now this is yet another pointless scare thread
