Putting DVD onto Website

Is it possible to upload on to a web site from a DVD. There is no problem with copyright. If it is possible, what would I need to do?

Many thanks!

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
Use autogordianknot (http://www.autogk.me.uk/) to compress the DVD (much like you can with CD track with mp3).

Then you can fit 30min into 500mb with no real loss of quality

Or depending on the screen size you want to show, you could go for MP4. You can get around 90 mins in 256MB @ 192Kbps
  • Many thanks to the above posters. It is a product infomercial, about 4 minutes long. Any further help and advice greatfully received.

    Thanks!

MP4 is just the container. You could store any ASP encoded (ie XviD) film (via AutoGK) in it if you wanted.

Guess you're referring to the AVC (h.264) codec?

Very impressive codec. Quite processor intensive compared with others, but offers the best results. Not fully supported yet either, but definitely up and coming with the release of HD-DVD and BluRay.

AutoGK is a nice quick and easy method. It's difficult to go wrong with it.

Not sure what the codec is (I'll have to look later). Been using 3GP Converter to transfer to MP4.
I've been using it to put some films on the iPod video I bought the missus for xmas, and it has some really nice results.

You'll have to post the URL once its uploaded....I have found some problems arising when I have posted different types of video file....only to discover that some "viewers" don't have the correct codecs installed....therefore some see....and some don't.....least on MSE using this thread you have enough people that can view or attempt to view and let you know how it goes, download/streaming speed, audio/video quality etc.

just out of curiosity....did you shoot the infomercial yourself or hire in a professional company, I'd be interested in typical costs etc

    good luck Torby

  • Many thanks again. So I have this DVD, so what do I have to do to convert it to say an wmv or mp3/4 file so that it could be emailed?

Different slant I know, but something else has occurred to me.

    Cheers

You'll have to 'rip' the DVD, and then use a compression program to enable you to reduce the file to a manageable size.
You can use Nero or similar to rip (there are free rippers out there - check google), and then use a compresssion program to convert to a suitable format. I use 3GP Converter to convert to mp4, as this gives you a choice of the bitrate you want to use, but there is a huge amount of software available out there, and you can do a search to see which will give you the results you are looking for.

Torby.... did you get that router sorted? I've been working all week, so haven't managed to do that for you yet. If you still need it, I'll hopefully get it done before the weekend. Let me know.
