Lost jewellery - impact of claim on future cover

Unfortunately, I lost two items of jewellery a few days ago and despite the venue helping us search we could not find them - they weren't stolen, I stupidly dropped them without realising and then when I returned they were nowhere to be seen.
The venue has taken my number and will call if they are handed in - but given that I've heard nothing I must assume that they are gone forever.
So, I believe they are would cost about £850 to replace - do I claim on my contents policy or not? Yes, I want to replace them BUT I am worried about the collective cost of any increased premium over the next few years. Also, what if I need (gawd forbid) to claim again for something else?
I'd appreciate any knowledge as to how this claim might impact on my future premiums - I have never claimed before and I'm middle aged so not a serial claimer or anything
.
Should I wear the loss (as it was my stupidity) or claim and then pay the increased premiums? I jsut want to know the cheapest route really.

Do some virtual quotes online with and without this claim to see what difference it makes to your premium.
If you have been paying to insure your jewellery away from home, and this loss is covered, then probably it's worth claiming over £850 - (assuming a reasonable excess). Otherwise what's the point of having insurance at all?0 -
