debenhams refusing orders

 I have tried three times to order the whisky ship, twice online and the third time with customer services via the phone. Each time the order is accepted then the next day an email arrives to say they have cancelled the order as age securitychecks couldn't be verified.
The request bt email was i phoned the order which I did, the girl said nothing wrong with mycard and ticked the box for over 18 amd promised their wouldn't be a problem any more. This was yesterday - today i receive an email saying order cancelled and ring customer services etc etc. so i did, and after being put through 3 different people to handle my 'problem' was told that age verication cannot be done and if i wanted the item to send in the post proof of my age. I am a pensioner!! I asked why are they selling alcoholic gifts on line when age cannot be verified. No answer except very sorry and all that.
Well the upshot is they have lost a customer as i refuse to have additional expense just to prove who i am and my age. I told them this and that i knew the company wouldn't care less anyway. So Debenhams farewell, i will never buy anything from you ever, or reccommend you.
