HSBC PPI reclaim help

Hi All,
I began my quest to reclaim PPI from a graduate personal loan sold to me online by HSBC in 2003 a few weeks ago. I began by following the excellent guide on moneysavingexpert and requested a copy of the Ts & Cs including a summary containing how much of my monthly payment was interest, repayment, PPI etc.
I want to make a claim as I'm sure that when I took the loan out the PPI box was already ticked.
Today I received a reply to my letter stating that due to 'data protection' they don't hold any data older than 6 years and since I took the loan out over 6 years ago, they can't supply me with the information.
Does anyone have any experience of a similar situation and any advice on where to go next?
All I know about the loan is the account number, the loan amount and the monthly repayment amount.
thanks in advance
Paul

Hi and welcome Paul
It can be an issue if there are no details held on the files, and they are not obligated to keep them on file any longer than the last 6 years.
However, not everyone has paperwork to continue with a reclaim, so just as long as you have your reasons and your account number, you can still continue to make a reclaim, then see what they come back with.
All you do is complete the reclaiming questionnaire as on below link, send to the head office of the company that sold you the finance, remember to keep copies of all you send and receive, this is in case you need to refer to it again at some point.
They normally have 8 weeks to give a decision.
So take it from there and see what happens, and please let us know, good luck.
