E reader dilemma

Help needed please

My grandad was previosuly looking at e readers.... but they were to expensive.

I told him I would like to buy one for him, but now regret it as i'm not sure how much he will use it..... he does read alot and the whole point was his eyes arnt as good as they used to be so it was about making it easier for him. But he isnt massively technical etc

Advice I need is which one

The Amazon kindle seems the best but is expensive... especially if he doesn't use it.

I have seen cheaper one but are they any good?

can any one recommend one please?

Also he doesnt have the internet so I will have to load all his books etc. ... can i buy them from ebay on on discs etc and load them on for him or do you have to buy them specifically.

Any help much appreciated

The Kindle is about the cheapest "true" ereader, IE one with a proper Eink screen.

It's also about the easiest to use for a non techie as you can just order your books off amazon and get them delivered directly to it via either wifi or the mobile phone network.

My dad has a 505 (he liked my one enough that after a day of using mine whilst on holiday he rang up and said "order me one"), and his eyes are fairly bad, but the great thing about ereaders is that they let you adjust the font size to suit, which makes it much easier to reader.

I say the Kindle is really easy to use the books download in 60 seconds from Amazon, you just go to the Kindle shop on the Kindle find the books you want press one button and they are downloaded in seconds..You have to register first and have an Amazon acc but from then on its simple..... you can also get the Kindle to read out loud if you are tired and its so much easier than holding a heavy book ..

Cheaper, (and I can really recommend it) is the Sovos from John Lewis or Play: http://www.play.com/Electronics/Electronics/4-/14545934/Sovos-SVEBK5B-5-inch-E-Reader+/Product.html

e readers are very good for reading, for the kindle you buy books from amazon bookstore and can download them to your computer and transfer to the kindle, you can also download free ebooks from anywhere on the internet and use a program to convert them for the kindle and transfer them across, to it via USB, it can also read pdf files you can download too.

it could be pretty good the kindle is the cheepest e reader and also you can vary the size of the text so good for poor sight.

You download direct to the Kindle there is no transfering of books from your computer.. also if you get the 3G version you don't even need the Wi Fi you download anywhere anytime..

yeah but the OP said that his grandad doesnt have internet and he would have to load the books on so I was thinking that he might download some books for his grandad while he doesnt have it so they are ready for the next transfer, as it would take a long time if he had to write down a list of wanted books and find them on the kindle each time he has it for a sync.

although with the amount of books thay can store it could be months or years between sync and new books being put on.

yeah 3G is a good point but if the OP thinks the wifi only one is expensive then the 3G version could be out of reach.
