Double glazing profile

Hello Experts,

I am looking to get windows double glazed and got a quote form the local companies. Most of the companies quoted with different profile and glass, are there any differences in the profile and which one is best to go for? It looks Rehau and Profile22 is slightly expensive than synseal.

Companies quoted: (8 windows + 2 doors UPVC)
1. Synseal + Pilkington K glass + Yale locking = £4k
2. Profile 22 + Pilkington K glass = £5k
3. Rehau + Saint gobain + swiss spacer = 7k

Thanks, VJ

  • Sorry, can't help with the details, although we got new windows recently but all I know is that it is pilkington k glass. Not sure what the other things mean.

We got 8 windows and a patio door. No normal doors. 2 of our windows are rather large, one was as expensive as the patio door because it's a picture window with fixed pane plus 2 hoppers and had to be toughened glass due to the size (not in case it got shot at as my Aussie cousin's friend thought was the reason lol).

Anyway, we paid just under £4k and I felt we got a good deal. A colleague of mine got another company to do hers and she got about the same number of windows (or slightly less - 3 bed, 1 bath semi), but she got a patio door to replace a window so it had to get knocked away, and also she got 2 doors. I think she was £5k. I think she may have got either softwood or upvc inside though, as when I asked her about varnishing the wood she said hers was white, and couldn't remember if it was just like that or painted before they moved in. We got mahogany. I believe there may also be a cost difference depending on the inside ledges etc.

I used to be in the trade. Rehau gets my vote every time. The make of the glass is not as important as the make and quality of the profile. You don't want to go for a profile that will yellow in a few years time. Rehau will not yellow.
  • Another vote for Rehau - good quality.

I used to work for a profile bending company and it was our profile of choice.
