I don't have anything concrete to add to the above, but I really feel for you. Do you have an advocate that can help you? social worker, friend? you need to have someone who can kick !!!. The bank has behaved appallingly, and needs to understand that. I wish I could help, pm me if I can help in any small way. Really hope you sleep better tonight.
  • Hi,

I just wanted to say hello and I hope that you get this sorted. I know what sort of stress this type of problem can put you under and I can see it's the last thing that you need what with all your other worries. I've had HSBC take extra payments on a loan (that was upto date) and wipe out my rent before now so I've learned how vital unassociated accounts are! I'm sure your carer will understand, I'm sure that you can get the money back along with an apology. However I'm not sure that it won't happen again. I'd definately pick a new basic bank account. One that can be set up online perhaps.

Please do come back and let us know how things are going!

Just when you think it can't get any worse. I have not been very well over the last few days, some days I'm not too bad other days I cannot get out of bed. With this hanging over me and having to find the courage to say to my carer "thank you for all the great care but I'm afraid I cannot pay you" I have found it hard to have her around me especially when The pay packet she is looking forward to is just not going to be so or at least a little short if I give her my benefit money.

As I have been told to pay her monthly I assumed that that I had at
least a little time to sort out a new bank account. All this stress has had me on the loo both ends and I cannot sleep. I feel like a zombie, this is my 3rd night with no sleep I'm so very worried.

Today I checked the balance of the account and to my horror they have taken another £486.40. I thought this is wiered I'm sure it was a
different amount, so I phoned barclays to discuss the one payment that they had taken to find that they had taken this other large sum today making it nearly £1000 in less than 2 weeks. The guy then put me on
hold and my phone said one minute left and it ran out whilst I was holding on the line. I got the LA payment schedule to find that although I pay her monthly they put the money in fortnightly. Yet again I'm. Such an idiot This is a nightmare I'm in a flood of tears. I feel it's finally the straw that broke the camels back. I'm really sorry to offload like this but I'm at the end of by tether and see no way out. I wish my mum was
here, we lost her last year. I've just been so preoccupied lately. my dad is going in for surgery on Monday, the same surgery he had done years ago where he had a cardiac arrest.. He phoned me yesterday to say that if the same happens again he will sign a form to say do not resuscitate so I've been going out my mind with that.

Thank you all you very kind people with problems of your own to take time to listen to me

Contact your social worker (or duty worker if they are not available) on Monday.
  • Oh you wonderful people I thought I was all dried up I'm at it again. I look like a bad hay fever day. I have no one else to turn to, or talk to. the last thing I want is to stress my dad, because if his op all goes wrong, and quite frankly I feel he is so sad missing my mum to go on, and wants to be with her then that's it the end of my family. I just don't know what to do. You would think these people were human and have some compassion especially at this time of the year. I will be responsible for my carer have a Christmas for her family she will never forget, and it's all my fault. I don't think these bank people realise the repercussions and the knock on effect their actions will cause. I wouldn't blame my carer for leaving, and I will be in a well earned mess. I just didn't see it coming especially when I set the account up I told them it was purely for local authority money in and wages out. No other use on the account. Fine said barclays. Couldn't for see this in my wildest dreams. Is this the level the human race has come to. It ceases to amaze me the banks get financially in trouble of course the government bails them out with the tax payers money yet when one person has difficulties tuff!!! The people behind the banks shatter peoples lives in this case one, me guilty I used my credit card, but to take down a purely innocent person working her job to care for another, unbelievable. I wonder how they would feel if they wee told at the end of their hard working month sorry no wages folks!!! I'm sure they would be up in arm especially with Christmas just. Weeks away. Double standards, definitely dirty double standards. They won't have to say. Santa couldn't come to their young ones. I'm sure they wouldn't stand for it. It's not the banks that are cruel just those people working for them. Do you think they get a bonus for"who can be the most spiteful this month?? One hit on this account my carer would be slightly down, but now this is cruel I just don't know what to do

Open another account away from Barclays for your direct payments.

Speak to your social worker, perhaps they will "loan" you the money to pay the carer which you could pay back having your DPs reduced over a set period of time.

Then you can get the citizens advice involved to contact Barclays re taking social services direct payments for debts.

    Hi

You have to get Citizens Advice involved now, they should act on your behalf over this and start the complaints procedure against Barclays/Barclaycard. This situation is an absolute disgrace and certainly puts my moans into persepective.

Get CAB involved, complain and then go to the Financial Ombudsman about this.

  • Thank you so very much what a very good site you are bar my initial blunder. Mrs E and eyeopener2 thank you for you thoughts I will act on this. I wonder if when barclays advertise jobs the sole requirement is no heart.

I do wonder is there call centre in the uk?? I suspect not. The people I spoke to said yes and?? As if to say like we give a damn I think not sad but true.

I will be honest Im tired with life I had my accident I lost my home shouldn't have as I had separate insurance as I was self employed. The consultant in the stroke unit said I quote " it is not my NHS duty to sign your insurance forms!! He did just three months after my home was repossessed with the lender having waited an eternity for proof of insurance and injury. All the years hard work down the drain. Even the estate agent took all my belongings right down to my wedding ring and my bed. Yes they all took advantage and sold my place 75% below it's value. It's so hard to do anything in a hospital bed. When the estate agents took the entire contents of my home, they had the nerve to phone the police to say if Jane reports a burglary they lender told us to take it. Yet a friend of mine was sent a fax the previous day to confirm it was ok to take all my contents. Hmm do you think it was because I was a single female with Spinal injuries and a stroke??? Everytime I think it will get better a bomb drops

Jane, do you get income support? In the short term you could apply for a social fund loan to pay your carer while you get help with Barclays.

I'd also be tempted to go to the national press about it, I'm sure it's the kind of story they'd love. A lot of the papers have consumer help sections.
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.
  • ames totally agree with eveything you said. Barclays are a total mightmare. They take no notice what you are saying. I had them on the phone asking for money 4 thimes in 5 days for something that had already been paid and sorted out. I'm normally quite a timid person but she got my back up that day and demanded that she stop haressing us or i was taking it further. she soon changed tactics.
Jane i hope you get it sorted with them soon i know what it feels like, they are terrible
The citzens advise is who you should talk to
