House renovation

Hello
I've just bought my 1st house which although habitable I'm planning on renovating whilst still being fortunate enough to be able to live with parents.
The problem here is that I can't find an insurer who will provide cover for contents due to a subsidance claim in 1988 and also the fact I'm not living there whilst building work is being carried out. I'm confused here as this is contents insurance not buildings I'm after, how can a subsidance claim 22 years ago can affect my contents!?
Can anyone advise or recommend someone to ring as the 3 main price comparison sites bring up no cover providers once small details are filled in.
Cheers,
Simon

Comparison sites are useless as soon as you answer 'yes' to one of those questions.
There will a few independent brokers in your area and I'd go and talk to them as they will have the experience and know where you need to go.
There is specific renovation insurance available but you will not find it through a comparison site.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.
