E.ON Final bills!!

I moved out of a property in 2009. I gave E.ON my meter reading the day i moved out. My fianl bill was sent to my new address, it was higher that expected, when I questioned this I was told it was because the two previous bills had been estimated. I arranged to pay the £591.77 bill by installments, which I finished paying this Sept.
On the 10 of Nov I recieved a text from UDS, E.ON's in house Debt Collection Service. I was informed that I owed £303.77 ob the property I vacated in Sept 2009. When i asked how i could owe this as I gave them a meter reading when i left the property, i was told it was because the previous two bills were estimated, the same reason i was given for the high final bill.
I have a couple of questions...
1. Can they decide that a year after leaving the property, I owe this money. Especially when UDS admitted it was E.ONs mistake,
2. If i gave them a final meter reading the day i vacated the property, how can they not have calculated it correctly?
Answers on a post card anyone??
I am so annoyed... I am no longer an E.ON custermer and never will be, this isn't the first time they've made mistakes on my account. Hence why i'm no longer a customer of theres. Has anyone else had this problem??

You need to ask them for a statement of account to show just how this bill has been arrived at. It may be that it's incorrect and part of the bill that you've already paid. If you are then satisfied that you do owe it, offer to pay it back at a low rate that you can easily afford. I have known people pay back debts at a pound a week and that rate was set by a court.0

Hi SillyGretPuddin
I agree with t0rt0ise. Ask for a statement of account.
Make sure the energy we are billing you for is based on the date you vacated the property and the meter reading you provided.
Must admit, it does seem a bit odd that we have given you a second final bill when you provided an actual meter reading on the day you moved out. Was the initial final bill based on this reading?
If it turns out the amount we are now claiming is correct, ask for a payment arrangement to spread the balance over a more manageable period.
Hope this points you in the right direction SillyGretPuddin. Give me a shout if you need any more advice as will be happy to help.

The meter reading I gave them on the day I moved out of the property is on the final bill. and that is what it's based on.
Thats why i'm disputing it. If i hadn't given this to them I could understand it.
I have since written two complaints as advised by ConsumerDebt line. One to E.on and one to UDS.
I will be doing this all in writing as advised, and not over the telephone. Then we bth have records.
I am convinced this is'nt my debt, as I gave e-on my forarding address, and had my post redirected after moving out of the property I moved too after the address concerned, we had Our post redirected for 6 months and never received any correspondance from e.on excpet to change our suppliers at my present address.:D0 -
Hi SillyGretPuddin
Am I right in thinking, the initial final bill was up to the meter reading you provided when you left the property and this balance was paid up in September?
If this is the case, then I agree, there should be no more to pay and you are absolutely right to raise this as a complaint.
I would recommend you send the complaint to the Director's Office. The agents in this area are best placed to deal with these issues. Contact details are on your bill.
I'm sorry you're having this hassle but hope this points you in the right direction.

Yes, I gave the meter reading to e.on when I moved. I recieved the final bill at my new address.
So as I said, how can I still owe money, when i paid it all off in installments. And yes I finished paying this in Sept 10
I have written to the Complaints Dept. I sent both letters by recorded delivery, so no excuses for not recieveing them. If I dont get anywhere i'll just take it to the Energy Ombudsman.
I'm fighting this all the way, as I said before, not the first time I've had problems with e-on, they were bad enought when they were powergen.
But Malcom thank you for your help.0 -
E-on tried to contact me yesterday, and as I've been advised to put everything in writing by NationalDebtline, I told the lady this, (They called my mobile, which doesn't work well at work) so maybe she didn't hear me, or we were cut off, but if she put the phone down. Well that's not very good, and no-one has attempted to call me back to confirm what I said.
Suffice to say i'm not particularly happy, I sent letters last week, by recorded delivery, so they would have got them, I hope i'm not going to get a snotty letter saying I was un co-operative, as I did ask in the letters that I require everything in writing only.
I am hoping to hear from E-on in writing shortly, but I guess we shall see. :cool:0
