Would I be wrong in switching to British Gas?

Hi, we have just moved into a rented house. Comes complete with gas and electric prepayment meters, yay!
Both are with EON, have been told by landlord we can change to normal meters if we wish but that the prepayment meters are the same price as most standard tariffs (True or not, they are WELL expensive!) Gas for four and a half days cost me £17.80, I nearly died! (this is with heating on for 2 hours a night, that has since stopped, jumpers and hats infront of the telly!)
Anyway, I rung to change but was told the usual - have to pay for removal, have to wait 12 months etc. Rung my sister (she works in british gas head offices) she has convinced me to go with them, apparently they are the only ones who dont charge to have the meters removed, can do it straight away (usual 6 weeks anyway) and can put me on the websaver tarrif 6% less than standard.
Anyway, I know British Gas have put there prices up but then so is everyone else, should I swap to this, would this be more sensible than what I'm on at the moment?
Cant seem to compare online, as the comparison sites wont compare prepayment to normal meters.
Sorry for going on so long! Any advice much appreciated

It's true that nowadays prepayment meters charge the same as the standard tariff so you could do a comparison using the standard tariff. But it's also true that British Gas are one of a very, very few who will change the meters for free straight away. They did mine for me but then we fell out and now I'm leaving them although I had planned to join the websaver tariff. My opinion for what it's worth is that in your position it would be wise to change over checking with them first that they will agree to change the meters.
