Perhaps the SP company rep could answer this one for me please?
I'm currently with SP for electricity only (we have no gas here) on the Fixed Price 2011 tariff (fixed till end of Feb 2011).
As an existing SP customer, can I switch (now) to the Online Energy Saver 11 tariff or is this for "new customers only"?
I have online access to my existing SP account, but the Online Saver 11 tariff does not appear in the list of available tariffs that I can switch to.
If this tariff is not generally available to existing customers, is there any leeway for arguing my case to be moved onto it? By that I mean, for example, if I say that I will be moving to eon's online 4 tariff (which I probably would) if I can't be moved to SP's Online saver 11 tariff, do you think I would get anywhere with SP?
Thanks in advance.

I was on Scottish Power Energy Saver 3 Dual Fuel.
Like you, I could not switch to version 11 online. I clicked the "call me back" button and booked a timeslot. Bang on time I got a phone call and spoke to one of their staff. They changed me onto energy saver 11 no questions asked, and also recalculated my direct debit.
It may be different since you're on electric only, but I don't see why.
No idea why you can't just do it online. I guess it's just to prevent too many people easily switching to the cheaper tariff!0 -
Hi strawberrylane
I think Hooloovoo has answered this one for you. My advise would have been to contact us and discuss this to see what we can do for you. Have a look at the link below for details on contacting us or arranging a call back:

Hi Strawberrylane,
My experience of trying to switch Scotttish Power Tariffs was rather different to Hooloovoo's.
In May this year I phoned them to try and switch from 'Fixed Price Energy Online' (ending end of Feb 2011) to 'Online Energy Saver 9'.
I was told repeatedly (by several different members of staff) that this was not possible and the Online Energy Saver Tariff was for new customers only.
I told them that if they did not change my tariff I would change my energy supplier, but this made no difference and ultimately I moved to British Gas.
In the light of this, I will be very interested to hear how you get on trying to switch tariff. Please let us know.0 -

That's just a silly policy isn't it? I think a lot of companies are realising now that this "new customer only" stuff doesn't work simply because we're all very happy to give them the middle finger instead.
As I said, as of the end of last month I had no trouble changing to ES11 so hopefully Scottish Power have realised the error of their ways.0 -
I phoned SP yesterday and told them that the Online Energy Saver 11 tariff was not available online for me to switch to, but that I understood that I could switch to it on the phone. The rep said 'yes' and did the switch there and then. I checked online today and it has all gone through okay, so I am now on the Online Energy Saver 11 tariff. The rep told me that I would be on the tariff until November 2011, so it seems I am on it for 1 year.0

Just wondered if you know if the rates are favourable compared to your fixed feb 2011 which I am still on. I was told that the feb 2011 is still the cheapest but maybe in the light of possible price rises a move to No 11 would be overall a better deal.Dianne0

We are elec only (elec heating) and I calculated that the online saver 11 tariff would be 27% cheaper for me on a (theoretical) 12 month comparison basis (not allowing for inevitable price increases on the new tariff).0

We've just moved and went with Scottish Power. We only need electric and they have put us on standard.
I can see that I can chose to change but what are the benefits if we dont know what elec we will expect to use?
Cant ask the previous occupant as to the usage as the National Grid are dealing with him as he 'forgot' to register the meter.....6 years ago!!:eek:Life is a rollercoaster.....ya just gotta ride it:whistle:0 -
Ther tariff just defines unit rates applied to bill their cheapest option is the header of this post Online Energy Saver 110
