Sound like employer responses to me lol.

If it's not in your rota/contract then not on your life.

Just because you arent the only 1 to have a problem with the cleaning rota it doesnt mean you have to follow, maybe they have been there longer as opposed to less than a year. I personally wouldnt get involved with not cleaning the loos and canteen but instead i would clean them as per the rota, that way no 1 from management can say you didnt clean them as per the rota.

Being on the cleaning rota is a requirement as the facilities are available to you, not because you use them.

    Unlawful dismissal? On what grounds?

The reality is that the OP can be dismissed (other than discriminatory reasons) within the first year without any repercussions for the employer - whether he gets past the probation period is another matter.

Although good 'housekeeping' is a very important part of warehouse operations, many larger warehouse/distribution companies will employ a cleaner for a couple of hours a day to clean the canteen, toilets and admin areas etc.

What I fail to understand is why some people in that workplace will seem to trash the places they themselves have to clean, so maybe the employer has come to the conclusion that if you are messing the place up - then you will bl**dy well clean up after you.

Unfortunately, the cards are dealt in the employers favour and due to the fact that if the OP seems unwilling to do it - then there are many who will.
  • I would lick the toilets clean with my tongue to get back into full time work, Just knuckle down son and be a team player.

I can see OP's point, we had a cleaner but there is going beyond the realms of what i would do, the cleaner who cleaned our toilet and canteen used to find semen and crap wiped all over the doors of the toilets. now no matter what i find that really gross.

    Seems like a nice place!

Maybe if jay_1978 was offered a job there, he may reconsider his offer to:
lick the toilets clean with my tongue to get back into full time work

Joking aside, I can understand the OP's predicament, but only he can decide if the requirement to do some occasional cleaning outweighs the benefits of a full time job.
  • Even after a year this could be seen as refusing a reasonable management request or instruction - which I have to say if you worked under me would end up with you on the wrong end of the disciplinary procedures.

I disagree completely,if i am employed as warehouse assistant/drivers mate then that is what i am,not a cleaner, why don't they employ a cleaner and give someone else a job.
