looking for an adventure holiday next year

I have now given up on going to India next summer (see previous posts)
I am tied to the school holidays and want a memorable holiday next year for myself, husband son 21 and daughter 17.
I think it may be our last holiday together just the four of us and I would like to make it a big one.
Have done the med, went to Isreal (loved it) did a fantastic holiday in California. Have skied in Europe and US. Been to North Africa.
Been to Dubai. (son has not he was in South Africa on a school trip at the time.) Have been on a cruise. Loved the idea, but the boat (Thomsons) was a bit tacky.
Thinking about Kenya (we got married in Kenya) or South Africa.
Bit worried about security though.
Fancy Cuba, but I think there will be a similar problem with India.
Looking for some ideas.
Are stuck with school holidays.
Daughter is in a private school so she breaks up at beginning of July.
Son is in University but will be returning to his old school to teach (also private so break up at beginning of July)
Must get back for 1st week in September.
All suggestions gratefully received bearing in mind dates available.

I haven't read your previous posts but have you considered Sri Lanka?

There is an absolute wealth of wildlife, cultural sites and scenic beauty that means I, for one, plan to return again and again.
  • South Africa is a really amazing place, lots of things to do, also a lot of history and breathtaking mountains.

Also safari tours and lots more.

I know this isnt something you have mentioned, but for the best holiday of your lifetime, AMERICA!

Florida, New York, Vegas etc. Listless amount of activities to do in both, I find the smallest things the best, visiting the Wal-Mart, huge meals in McDonalds and getting Mickey Mouses autograph :o

I really fancy South Africa, but am worried about security. Am I just being over cautious? My son went with the school and he said it was amazing. They lodged with other people, played rugby with township children as they donated to a school there. They did everything. Because there was 50 of them, the trip was tailor made to suit them. He still talks about it now - 6 years later. I think if we went as a family, he may be disappointed because we could not match their itinery.
We did LA, San Fransisco, Las Vegas and we loved it. Thought about going again because we loved it so much but thought we really should do something else.
Did Florida twice. Did think about flying to New Orleans, having a few days there then on to Orlando and then New York.
Had not really thought about Sri Lanka. Would it be ok this time of year?

How about India - so many amazing places to explore, and would work fantastically with Sri Lanka, Maybe do a week in each - Colombo is only about an hours flight from Trivandrum in the south of India and Srlankan Airlines and various others have plenty of flights between the two. Sri Lanka is stunning, can't say what its like in july/aug as when I went there it was in November but both of these countries are worth visiting. Nepal would be another option - spent a few weeks there a few years ago and we flew all over the place to save time (7 hour drive v 30 min flight) and its an incredible stunning country. Could also do a stop over the UAE too on the way there or back, breaking up the journey. Whatever you do hope its an amazing holiday for you all
At least the fish fingers are still frozen, that's what I keep telling myself (Truly Madly Deeply)
