Car Insurance

Hello people,

I was wondering if anyone has any knowledge on No Claims Bonus rules.Basically i have been abroad for a while now and therefore have not had a vehicle in the Uk for 18 months approx.I was prior to that insured with over 10 years no claims bonus.
I might be back in the Uk soon and therefore was wondering whether i have lost all those years of No Claims Bonus or,due to the fact i had no other vehicles or indeed not even been in the country that it might still somehow be valid.

Any help appreciated!!!

I'm sure I read on here recently its 2 years, so you've got 6 months yet.

hi hotrocks.most insurers will allow a lapse of 2years so you've got plenty of time to sort it out.aviva allow upto 3 years gap.i've just insured with esure with a 2 year gap no problem..ck

2 years seems to be the norm. however I have heard if you go to your last insurer they some times allow more. Not 100% on that?
  • Nice one,thanks alot.
One more thing(doh),is it possible to get cover for only 3 months or 6 months?

It is but I would shop around a lot of the premium is the initial risk so short term polices can be expensive if compared month to month.
  • Right then, thankyou for all the help.I shall now proceed to purchase a new vehicle.I rather fancy an Astravan..............but....................erm is that classed as a commercial vehicle and if so would i be able to carry 10years plus NCB???

    Sorry to ask again:o
