EGG is conning customers!

EGG promise 1% cash back on all purchases on their Egg Money card but I've discovered that every month a few pence or pounds have been deducted from my cash back. I complained 3 months ago and the complaints department agreed that the Operations Team are making the wrong calculations so they reimbursed me, and promised that the Operations Team would be informed of their error. However, I notice that they are still continuing to deduct money from cash back due to me. Check your statements - if you spend £500 on your EGG money card but return £50 worth of items, the total owing on your statement is £450 because £50 worth of returns have been deducted. You should have 1% OF £450 cash back (i.e. you do NOT have cash back on the £50 worth of items returned). However, EGG then deduct the £50 returned items AGAIN and only give 1% on £400, instead of 1% of £450. This means that you have £4 cash back instead of £4.50. It may not seem a lot, but it adds up each year, and imagine how that is multiplied when you consider that EGG do that to every customer!

The cash back earnt is obviously calculated by computer but has been set incorrectly. Despite being informed of the error by the complaints team at EGG, the Operations team at EGG continue to give customers insufficient cash back each month. If anyone complains (as I and many others have done) they repay that customer - but then continue to do the same thing!

Ff there are no refunds during the month, then the customer receives the correct 1% of the total purchases. If you check all of your statements you will see that any month where a refund has been made, EGG will incorrectly calculate the 1% and you will not receive sufficient cash back.

CHECK YOUR STATEMENTS!!

Posts go through really quickly, so often things are missed. I had not seen the above post before, as I am sure many others hadn't - thanks for the post

Yes, but surely it would have been more sensible to just bump the old post?

  • My dear Anwen,

If I knew what 'bump the old post' meant or how to do it, maybe I would have done! However, I'm just an old age pensioner who has been conned by a conglomerate, and I'm just trying to ensure that other people know about it, so they can do something about it if it's happened to them as well.
  • Thank you!
