Some advice or thoughts please

Hello, I have a friend who I recently introduced to Ebay, a couple of weeks ago she asked me to keep an eye on one of her auctions as she was keen to win it, however I was out so couldnt. When I got home , I had a look and saw that she had been outbid, too bad.

When I mentioned it to her she said that her sister had won the auction for her, so tonight i was having a nose and sure enough her sister had outbid her.
Then I noticed that she had lots of feedback from her sister, if she has been bidding on her sisters auctions, outbidding other ebayers and winning them is this shill bidding, and if so should I do anything about it?

What do you guys think

Thanks elmer

unless you have a quiet word with her, warn her that if ebay catch them that they could be suspended and banned. pure greed really if dont want your item to sell for a small amount, list them as a buy it now or with a reserve.

Warn her that shill bidding is seen as a very bad thing to do and if noticed will almost certainly get reported and get her suspended. She may be genuinely unaware that she is breaking the t and cs, so warn her before she loses her account.

However if she bidding genuinely on her sisters items can't you suggest that she gets her sister to just sell her the items and avoid all the ebay and paypal costs? I often buy from my work colleagues, but *before* they list the stuff on ebay...they sell the same sort of thing so have a good idea of the end price so we just agree on what it was likely to fetch, then do a cash deal amd the item never even gets close to ebay. I personally would not even bid on my work colleagues items in case we could be linked somehow.

  • What sort of friend reports them for something as daft as Ebay?

It's not exactly fraud is it. Get a grip and be a proper friend and ignore it. Honestly, I'd hate to be your friend if you'd have issues with some fake bids and feedback.

It's her breaking the rules not you, so go and pour yourself a drink, sit back and loosen up and just let it go.

I take it you don't buy a lot on ebay then?

OP, if you only recently introduced your friend to ebay, it's probably that they don't fully understand the rules. Have a quiet word and set her straight.

You should tell her the risks involved in shilling.
  • While what she appears to be doing is wrong what has it got to do with you ?
Some friend you are .. maybe the green eyed monster rears its ugly head here ?

If you are bidding on something and suspect shill bidding then by all means report it other then that maybe its a case of mind your own buissness and get a life
It constantly suprises me on the amount of people you see on these boards that are looking for advice on shopping their freinds for one thing or another .I bet their freinds think they have a really good friend if only they knew the truth

So if you had a friend that didn't have a TV license but thought they didn't need one, but as we all know, they will eventually get caught and fined... you wouldn't warn them to get a license? After all, what has it got to do with you?

    Some friend you are.

I think, Fay, that people are assuming OP meant "should she report her friend to ebay?" (which is not what she said).

Certainly she should explain things to her friend.

I don't see why people are leaping all over the OP. All she said was 'should I do anything about it?' Certain people are screaming at her for DARING to consider reporting her friend. They must be bloody psychic if they somehow think that's what OP is planning.
