We ripped out our old kitchen and my OH decided to keep it in the garage it was just basic units with oak doors,we had had fitted about 15 years ago. I was moaning about it and told him to dump it in the skip. We were getting a neighbour to come and give us a quote to plaster the kitchen, utility and bathroom and he came round and saw the kitchen in the garage, he was renovating a house and asked how much, my Husband said "make me an offer" and our neighbour said he would do the plastering if we gave him the kitchen, I could not believe it I got rid of the kitchen and got the rooms done all in one go.;) and not a penny changed hands.

This reminds me of many years ago when the bloke in the local chinese takeaway asked MrJudi to fit an extra plug in his kitchen. We ate chinese every night for a week.:DThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Hi, I'm sure they used to operate this way in some of the Eastern bloc countries. It was like a form of bartering. Services were offered in exchange for goods and no money change hands. I think there must be something similar in the Uk where there is a pool of tradesmen offering their services in exchange for other tradesmens services..... I think I remember reading of it years ago...maybe it wasn't successful. Great idea though. Good for you Dawn anyway. shrewdal0

Definately happens here, every plumber who needs some doors fitted will know a joiner who needs a bathroom installed, etc0

Never ever dump anything straight in the tip if there's any life in it!If you can't (or can't be bothered to) sell it, offer it on your local freecycle site (www.freecycle.org) - somebody will always be interested!
Glad you got a good deal this time! :T0 -
My builder husband recently replumbed a bathroom and got a pedigree kitten in lieu of payment! He had set his heart on a big Maine Coon tabby and got the pick of the litter."Cheap", "Fast", "Right" -- pick two.0
