10 James Bond Books for £10

Hi
Can't recommend the Ian Rankin/Rebus books highly enough. Don't be put off by the TV series which was only OK. The books are great - be sure to read them in sequence - Knots & Crosses etc.....
I already have them but just bought a copy for a mate. The free p&p code works a treat.
Enjoy

timbellina wrote:uh, Red? I'm just curious; who "did" write Casino Royale, then? The only book you couldn't say was "just" Ian Fleming was Thunderball, because that started life as a script between IF, Kevin McClory and someone whose name I forget .... Whittingham? Something like that. Anyway; it's not all the Bond books written by Ian Fleming; but it's a cracking deal anyway, and my thanks (literal and electronic) go to you for spotting it.
Can't say for definate but the other 2 authors of James Bond Books were John Gardner and Raymond Benson - not a fan but Mr Stitch is (and has all the books!)
Reliably informed that Ian Fleming wrote the original Casino Royale (it was the first Bond Book) but that Raymond Benson MAY write the book of the film. (R. Benson is the current author of James Bond books)Nice to save.0 -

Hi Red; I see what you mean about Gardner and Benson; but they didn't write any of the books of the films; those have all come from the mind of Ian Fleming..........
I like the idea of 10 books, but given that 11 would have made the generally accepted set, I wonder why they didn't do the extra one??

I'm a big Bond fan (got all 20 DVD's), but I haven't got round to reading any of the books. My Dad's been on at me for years to read them, saying how good they are, '...much better than the films...' and '...can still hold their own in today's choice of thrillers...'. If I hadn't seen replies to my original post, I would have blindly accepted that I had purchased all JB books written by Ian Fleming. Strange why they haven't included all of them? On a similar note, I love Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and I've never read that book, although I do remember a teacher reading it to her class when I was 7 (not my class, I'd been naughty at lunchtime, and my punishment was to do work in a different class, so I only heard a couple of chapters). I think I'll hunt around for that book too :-)0

I know - I'm a sad sad person who needs to get out more.....
can't say for certain about the others but "the octo film" was actually adapted from a short story that Fleming wrote.
I know - I'm an even sadder person0 -

Curse! Except "Licensed to Kill" and "Goldeneye"; the latter being the name of Fleming's house in Jamaica; and the former being a lack of inventiveness on the part of the script writer.
And, come to think of it, some of the Benson titles "have" been used for the movies, but as I've never read them, I don't know if the films bear the usual resemblanceto the books...
Books-wise, there were two called "Thrilling Cities:1" and "Thrilling Cities:2" which I got second hand for the sake of completeness a few years back. And very tedious they were, too.

This site seems to suggest that he wrote 13 books, as you say, a long way off the number of films!
