Lighter colour alternative to Magnolia?

  • Yes, Calico is Dulux, we also have it in our hall and study. I have a lighter shade called Timeless by Dulux (good bit paler than calico) in our living room and spare bedroom and it's really nice. I like both colours. We also had almond white (dulux) on our stairway in our last house. Really liked that too. I tend to stay away from the lemony or peachy shades of cream. There's lots of creams!!

Buy a few testers first. Good luck!

thats the way i do it too.
far cheaper than paying dulux prices for a fancy named color.

Indeed, perhaps we should give our low cost option a fancy ( read silly ) name.:D

Mix some white with Magnolia until you get the desired shade that you require.

How do you mix the paints enough to avoid streaking or patchiness? Will a few minutes stirring with a stick do it?

What do you do if you need a greater quantity than you can do in one batch?

Can you do a second batch so that the colour is identical or close enough not to make a difference?

    1) Keep stirring until all streaks have gone and all paint is completely mixed.

    2) Mix in a larger container.

    3) Yes but you shouldn't need to.;)

    Hi
we have 3 rooms and a hall in our flat to paint and was going to go for trusty old magnolia but feel it's a bit "yellowish" for the feature wall paper which has a lighter colour in it (just off-white and no more).

Seems only magnolia sold in larger tubs? Has anyone found a lighter alternative to magnolia they liked, I don't like or want pure white.

I was like you and didn't want anything with a yellowish tinge, we tried quite a few sampler pots and ended up with the above. The lighter one is Just Walnut and the darker one is Perfectly Taupe Both Dulux Matt.
  • My daughter has Timeless in a dark hall but it is almost white with virtually no colour at all and she wishes she had gone for something else. She has Natural Wicker in one room and it is lovely. She has Natural Hessian in her kitchen and it has a slightly pink tone.

Errata - I can't find a light Chestnut shade on the Dulux website. Maybe discontinued? Waterlily - I was thinking of Just Walnut for one of my rooms. Your photo is of two shades of grey on my screen and I know that isn't right. How would you describe Just Walnut?

I expect you all know this but the Dulux colour chart is way off the mark, which completely defeats the object. Are the tester pots true to colour?

    Happy decorating.

    Hope

    Hi Hope

I would say it's a much lighter shade of the Perfect Taupe, hard to describe really definitely not a true grey but on the grey side IYKWIM lol. The testers we had were true to colour, we were lucky that they were matt which is what we wanted.

Don't know if that's much help but I find it really hard to describe these taupe colours. The colours were exactly what I wanted didn't want anything with a yellowish tinge.
