Given the MSE statement "We think that only forummers who joned before Dec 2009 will be receiving these emails, as they relate to a breach in the past." shouldn't we all be asking why we weren't told about this previous security breach?

That would at least have warned people that their passwords and email addresses hadn't been securely held, and had been compromised. It would also have lessened the chances of people being caught out this time round.

If you've used the same password as your MSE password anywhere else (and particularly for your MSE email account) it might be time to make some changes.

Totally Agree surely MSE should be advising everyone to change passwords.
  • Found the mail this am in Spam box of my email addy I used when first registered in 2004, so Spam filter did the job. Point to note.....I receive the Weekly MSE email to a different addy, but the dodgy email was not sent to it at all.

    Hi All,
Lots of posts on here today. Just checked my email and I have a message in my junk box but I have not opened it. It says its from admin to Diamond78. Do I need to forward that email to the site or shall I just leave it? Thanks in advance.

sorry if this seems so wrong but these threads keep me mighty amused :rotfl:

it's high time that we needed a conspiracy theory :D board
That is a good example of what would be happening to a dumped database of user info. Cyber crime is a big business now.
