Should I believe the Estate Agent?

My Mum passed away recently and together with my Brother and Sister, we need to decide what to do with Mum's house. It is a 3 bed detached with integral garage and is very tired. Structually it's fine but it really needs a new kitchen & bathroom, ceilings repaired etc.
2 agents have come round so far and recommend marketing it at £160k as it is. They suggest that spending £6k+ will only increase it's value by about £10k. Should we trust their judgement or do the place up?

How do you feel about doing it up?
I always think the better a place looks the easier and quicker it will sell and for the most money too.
Obviously its not worth spending £8k and alot of hard work to only put £10k on value, but if you can do it cheaply, then I think it is worth it.
We didn't put a new kitchen in we changed door handles and painted doors and it spruced the place up no end.
Alot of viewers though love a new kitchen, but they can be expensive and the new owners may not like your taste anyway?!!0 -
I find that those that need doing up, tend to sell quickly in the most part and for more money than they are worth, so that sounds about right to be honest.
People can then choose their own kitchen and bathroom, as they may not like the one you choose.Pawpurrs x

I agree with pawpurrs. People think they are getting a bargain with one that needs doing up, even though they're probably not. I've seen a lot of it round our way.0
