Printer cable

I have a parallel printer cable: Centronics CN36 1284 male one end. DB25 male the other end.

New laptop has USB port.

Looking online I've found many USB/CN36 cables offered for £1.00 - £5.00, which claim to fit 'any parallel printer connection.' But they all have female connections on the end. My printer has a female connection so clearly female-female won't fit.

Is my (Olivetti) printer unique!???

No. The USB adapters are supposed to connect to the cable, not directly to the printer.

Fair point, if that's how it has to be done. Misled by the descriptions. Here's a typical one:

" just plug the 36 pin standard centronics connector to the parallel printer, the USB connector to the USB port in your PC or laptop."

Nothing about plugging into existing cable (which is 25 pin anyway). Described as a "cable lead", not an adapter.

However I take your point.

Looks like a female. I sent that supplier an enquiry to check yesterday and awaiting confirmation.
