Can anyone help? I recently downloaded a PDF file for a friend who hasnt got an internet connection. I have Office word 2003 and when I tried to load the file onto his machine I realised that he only has Works, so is unable to open it. How can I easily get over this problem? Does he have to load word? or is there a simple way of opening the file. Thanks to all.

Normally PDF files are opened by the Adobe Reader. Download it and take it to your friend's place.0 -
Adobe Reader:

but since he hasn't an internet connection, you could download it on to CD and then install it from that onto his computer0 -
What a plank!! Never gave it a thought. Will do as you say>Thanks0

Dontcha need the full Adobe Acrobat to change PDFs, not just the reader ...?0

Forget Foxit, the free one is pretty much just a reader, with it's sneaky way of trying to get you to install a toolbar.
Much better and with more features, simple editing etc, is PDF-XChange Viewer.
Make sure you select the FREE version, i.e. the first one.

I'm uncertain whether he's to view or to actually edit the PDF document. To alter the PDF, a reader alone won't do. You'll need a full editor, like Adobe's. The Abobe Acrobat Professional suite costs around £600 for a single license, so that's not an option.
What is?- Convert the PDF into a Word Document using a free tool (search online). You may need to fix formatting, though, and if the PDF uses fonts you don't possess, it may not display correctly.
- Request a .DOC or .ODF version of the document from the supplier
- Decide to give him the PDF as is, without alterations
Also, if he's stuck with MS Works, bundle a OpenOffice installer in there too. He'll thank you.0 -

The title of the thread is "Changing PDF files"
I take that to mean he wants to edit them.0 -
Most */pdf's are authored, so even the £660 version won't allow editing without the ' special permissions '. I have come across very few editable pdf's in 20 or more years. The UK / gov went into edit [able ] some years ago but Plagiarism [ I assume ] soon put a stop to truly paperless gov / docs.Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion.
