Are Ceramic Hobs any good?

I have an electric cooker with solid hot plates which I find very uncontrollable. I am considering getting one with a ceramic hob and wanted peoples views as to the controllability. Thanks

Not much better with ceramic, I believe Induction (they look the same as ceramic) are better for response. Gas is best in my opinion, in my dream home I would have an LPG gas hob (my dream home won't be anywhere near a mains gas pipe, too common!).0

I have ceramic and I wouldn't have anything else. I'm sure gas is the best but it terifies me (something to do with my mum constantly having a tea towel on her shoulder and leaning over the flames probably!). Ceramic definitely isn't the instant control that gas give you but you do get used to it and personally I love the nice sleek glass top that you can just wipe over and keep looking pristine because there aren't any nooks and crannies for food remnants to get plastered all over. I have a touch hob for this very reason (particuarly after a previous lodger managed to spill something like angel delight all over the old cooker top and knobs, which I could never get completely clean!).0

becs has neatly summed up everything I feel about my ceramic hob. I don't have a gas supply where I live and wouldn't get LPG just for cooking, so ceramic or induction are the best bets for all electric homes. It is much better than the old solid electric plate cooker (and the ring one before that), but not as instant as gas. Induction hobs were way more expensive when I looked into them, so didn't go down that route, but if I went for an upgrade in future it would be between induction (with a new set of pans) and ceramic. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Have a look at induction hobs. They aren't so expensive now & are fantastic to use - fast, easy to control and easy to clean.0
