Hi
About 2 1/2 yrs ago I sold my car because we had both retired and only needed 1 car. Since then I have been a named driver on my wife's car insurance. Now I want to purchase another car and have been trawling the comparison websites for a quote only to discover that, because of the time lapse during which I have not had my own insurance, I find that, after 2 years your no claims bonus reverts to zero. This results in some quite ridiculous quotes (eg £1400 for a 6 year old Nissan Almera for me, 62yrs old and no claims for 44 yrs! How can I get a better quote for my second car? Can my wife be the principal policy holder for 2 cars and would she get the NCB on both cars?

Quite a few insurers offer second car discounts and/or mirrored discounts if you meet certain criteria (usually being claim/conviction free). Speak to a broker if you're having problems.0

Thanks for the responses. I have now accepted a quote from Aviva at a cost of £273 Fully Comp. with protected NCD and my wife as a named driver. That is also cheaper than any quote I had from GoCompare.0

They are "cheap". Read up on them here and on the net and you'll see why!
But they are useful to use to "revive" 3 year old NCB.
Whenever you leave them you will get a current proof of NCB to take elsewhere.
Some savvy people leave them during the cooling off period rather than risk having to deal with their "service" should they need to call on it during the policy year!0
