Vista Internet Security - Virus?

My daughter has managed to get something onto her computer calling itself vista internet security, I believe it to be some sort of virus, it will not let us get past "register this to get rid of 25 infections". It is an Acer Aspire 5735Z. Fortunately she managed to make another user account just before this occurred, so she can still get on the net in the other account, but it totally blocks access in her original one! I ran MalwareBytes but there was two parts it could not get rid of.

Can I remove this manually or do I need to get hold of her laptop and run Hijack this etc (currently laptop and I are in separate positions!)

Has anyone heard of this or am I barking up the wrong tree?

Thank you.
