Hi
I'm lucky enough to be going to Canada at the weekend with work and was wondering what sort of things are bargains in Canada compared to the UK.
Am I right in thinking clothes and electricals etc will be cheaper like in the US??
I need a new digi camera - does anyone know if there are good bargains to be had over there??
Any other recommendations ready for xmas?
Cheers

same here gong end of NOV. so tips would be great . hoping this 2-1 £-CAN$ is a good rate and holds for a month of so

if you keep your receipts over $50, you can claim GST(tax) back from the airport0

I am going at the start of November!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I:D cant wait!!! 3 weeks to go!
As far as I know most things are a bargin over there with the exchange rate.
I would be careful with electrical stuff. They firstly have a different pin setup and also a different voltage. If you do buy something make sure that it can be plugged into our 240V
Also IIRC when I last wen to Canada the stuff in shops is priced up without tax, so you have to add that on when looking at things to buy.
Enjoy Canada, which part are you going to? I am off to Toronto on the 9th NovemberJeremyMarried 9th May 20090 -
Our office is in Edmonton, been told there is not a great deal to do/see there.
I was only asked about the trip on Wednesday so its a rush job getting everything sorted.
Got 2 weeks out there though, looking forward to it.
Its looking pretty cold now and was snowing there yesterday one of the guys was telling me.
Will probably working most of the time but hopefully I'll get the weekend off to go out and about.

well it looks closeish to the Rockies (in Canada terms) I am betting there will be amazing things to go and look at. Calgary is not that far away either. There will be impressive wilderness to see. Just take warm cloths with you. When I went to Toronto 3 years ago it was about -15 -20C with windchill!JeremyMarried 9th May 20090

Hi, they have a good shopping centre in Edmonton by all accounts. Gameboy games are cheap (but don't buy PS2 games as obviously the TV screens are different IYSWIM), if anybody likes country music the cds are cheap but not mainstream, dvds are cheap. They have no PST out there either so things are going to be cheaper than say Vancouver where I was. Jeans are cheaper as well. Enjoy yourself and try to get to an Oilers game while you're there.0

Thanks MegS.
I've just reserved a GameBoy advance game on the Argos clearence site for the journey there.
I might pick one or 2 up out there if they are cheap enough.
Jeans for the girlfrind, a digi cam for me and other xmas pressies.
I guess the oilers are the ice hockey team, that would be pretty cool.

A couple of gallons of maple syrup and I'll buy it from you
We spent 3 years in Ottawa and the stock we brought back is running low.
If you get the chance, check out the Steam Whistle micro brewery. Nice beer and interesting place. What goes around - comes around0
