PlayStation2

My daughter has a PlayStation2 and when she plugs into any of the TV's we have there is no sound or picture coming from the TV. We ordered a new cable which connects it to the TV and that was not the problem. We know it isnt the actual power lead because the red/green light on the PlayStation2 is on.
PLEASE HELP!? :(

  • This is fairly common fault for the PS2, especially if it has been "chipped" or modified in the past.

It could be repaired but it may be cheaper if you look around for a secondhand working one.

Which model of the PS2 have you got- old or the slimline? What cable did you connect, what TV's have you got?
I have a slimline PS2 couldn't get it to work on my new Bravia TV, then realised that it had to be connected at the side of the set with the cables that are Red Yellow & White( sorry don't know the techy name for them) now it works fine. I have sky connected to the TV and had to have the PS2 tuned to another channel(channel 6 in my case as I have channel 5 for PS3)
Don't know if this will be of any help as I am ranting a bit!

She has the PS2 slimline and we have 2 samsung TV's. And we also checked if there were anymore places to put the red, white and yellow wire things and changed the channels and the same thing still happened.

Have you used the PS2 with the TV before?

Also, are the cables definitely red/white/yellow (composite) or are they red/blue/green (component)? (I think I've got them the right way around.)

The PS2 can be put into different video output modes. I forget what the modes are called, but you will not see a picture if it is set to a different mode to the cable you are using.

If you get sound from the machine (as in, the video game sound through the speakers), the chances are the video has been set to a different mode to what the TV is expecting.
  • This PS2 has been used on both TVs before.
